Referrals and assessments

Once you have contacted the Centre you will be offered an assessment appointment. Please check your junk mail if you have not received an email from us as sometimes the emails can get treated as spam. 


This will either be at The Acorn Centre or a virtual appointment with one of our counsellors. The assessment is so you can meet us as an agency and for you to make sure we can offer you the support you may need. In order to do this we do have to ask a few questions during your assessment. These questions will be asked in a sensitive way.

If you have been referred to The Acorn Centre by your GP or another agency, you will still need to follow the assessment process.  


Due to the level of referrals we are receiving at the Centre, we do currently operate a waiting list and priority is given to our core work of supporting people within the area of baby loss and pregnancy-related/infertility concerns. (See our services page for full details of our core work).




Not attending an assessment appointment


If you have been referred by your GP or another agency and do not turn up for your assessment appointment, and do not notify the Centre in advance, you will need to contact the Centre – we will not contact you. We do understand that life can interrupt our plans however and will always seek to offer you another assessment appointment as soon as possible. Please be aware that this will be subject to our waiting list. 


Cancelling appointments

We understand sometimes our clients need to make cancellations and re-arrange appointments. Can we ask where possible that you try and give us at least 24 hours’ notice where possible. We will also endeavour to do the same, although we do realise that this is not always possible.


If The Acorn Centre has to cancel your appointment, we will try our very best to offer another appointment within a weeks’ time.
