Cocks Lloyd solicitors raise nearly £3,500 to support local counselling service

Generous fundraising efforts from Cocks Lloyd Solicitors are helping local charity The Acorn Centre improve its facilities.

Cocks Lloyd raised £3,440 for The Acorn Centre after a year of fundraising activities, which is now making a big impact on the charity that operates on limited resources.

The Nuneaton charity, which has been operating since 1995, offers a vital service counselling women and men in the local community with pregnancy-related concerns. The Centre needed funding to help support people who could not afford counselling sessions after a grant for this ended.

The money raised has also helped the Centre update their computer equipment, transforming the way the staff and volunteers work. The Centre will also use the money to install a portable water heater so they can have hot running water on the premises where they operate.

Natalie Parsons, Chair of the Trustees at The Acorn Centre, said: “The donation from Cocks Lloyd has made such a big difference to the work at the Centre.

“We are so grateful for all the money that Cocks Lloyd has raised for us. We are such a small charity so every penny counts and means so much to the people who need our services.

“In addition to the invaluable funds raised, Cocks Lloyd’s support of the Acorn Centre has helped to raise awareness of our services to their family and friends. Pregnancy related issues are very often not shared so raising awareness of local support available to men and women is so important to us.”

Cocks Lloyd started fundraising for The Acorn Centre last May after employees chose the service as its charity of the year. A range of different fundraising events such as bake sales, a summer BBQ and a quiz have all helped to raise a substantial sum for the charity in the 12 months.

In addition to the fundraising, one of Cocks Lloyd’s employees Katrina Kimberley also decided to become a trustee after being inspired by the Centre’s work.

Cocks Lloyd Solicitor Sharon Wilkinson said: “The staff have worked tirelessly throughout the year and I am extremely proud of the amount they have raised for this worthy Nuneaton charity. It is so rewarding to hear of the practical improvements their efforts have made to the charity.”

The Acorn Centre, based in Nuneaton offers counselling and support for women and men who are coping with issues including infertility, baby loss, unexpected pregnancy, pre and post abortion and postnatal depression. They also offer counselling for young adults on a range of issues.
