Thank you to our volunteers

A message from the Acorn Centre’s Chairman of Trustees Natalie Parsons to all of our very special volunteers.

Did you know that one in four pregnancies end in loss during pregnancy and birth? Fertility problems affect one in six, or one in seven couples in the UK – that’s approximately 3.5m people. Postnatal depression affects one in every 10 women.

But these are just statistics. Behind them are real people – many of whom you may know, who are forced to cope with the reality of these pregnancy-related concerns.

And for some, when the burden becomes too heavy, they need someone who they can talk with, who can help share the load.

That’s where a group of very special volunteers at The Acorn Centre offer that essential support in those times of need. We are so grateful to our fully qualified counsellors and trainees who offer their skills for free to ensure that women and men have someone to talk to about how baby loss, infertility, abortion or post natal depression is affecting their lives.

We are also thankful for all those who volunteer to help with administration tasks and enable us to open our Centre during the week – such an important role and a position we definitely need more volunteers to help us with! (Please see more info here about this).

Thank you to the trustees too who are helping to guide the Centre in a new direction to ensure it can continue to offer these vital services and to everyone who has donated their time to supporting our fundraising efforts or even helped decorate the office when it needed a lick of paint!

Without the generosity of people willing to volunteer, many small charities like ours wouldn’t survive. Volunteering can be such a rewarding experience and we would love to hear from you if you have a few hours to spare to help our charity.

Thank you to all those who have volunteered to support The Acorn Centre over the last 24 years – you have made a difference. Be proud of what you have achieved and let’s celebrate the true impact of volunteering during #VolunteersWeek.
